Thinking of joining dating site ‘Match.Com’? Well, after you read this, you may want to think again.
For, this week, it has emerged that a 50 year old woman named Mary Kay Beckman is suing the company for 10 million dollars after a man she met on the site stabbed her with a butcher’s knife and stomped on her head, after she dumped him.
In 2010, Mary met a Mr. Wade Ridley on the site, but realized he wasn’t the one for her after eight days together and so decided to call it quits. Unfortunately for her, Riley didn’t take the rejection as well as he should have and broke into her garage on January 21st 2011- stabbed her 10 times with a butcher’s knife and stomped on her head.
As a result of the horrific attack, she had to undergo three head related surgeries to repair her jaw and preserve her eye sight, which also saw part of her skull removed.
The worst thing about it is though, is that one month after attacking Mary- he stabbed a Ms. Anne Marie Simpson to death after meeting her online, which is why she is suing Match for not doing enough to protect its users from characters like her attacker.
“I struggled a lot thinking why did she die and why did I live. God saved me that night for a reason. I shouldn’t be here today. It’s my mission and goal to save someone from being hurt or help someone make a different decision with their online dating choices.”
Going on to add:
“When the police arrested him, he said he wasn’t there to hurt me. He was there to kill me. His intent was to kill me that night.”
In response, Match said the following:
“The many millions of people who have found love on Match.com and other online dating sites know how fulfilling it is. And while that doesn’t make what happened in this case any less awful, this is about a sick, twisted individual with no prior criminal record, not an entire community of men and women looking to meet each other.”
This, after Ridley committed suicide in 2012 before he could 70 year sentence for Ann’s murder.
