It was the show meant to document the life of Atlanta Rapper Shawty Lo and his ‘unique’ family.
However, after a damning online petition launched against it, Oxygen’s ‘All My Babies’ Mama‘ is reportedly facing the snip after it was accused of endorsing a negative- albeit at times accurate- portrayal of ‘ringless polygamy’ in contemporary African American culture.
For, in the series, fans of Lo would have been introduced to all 11 of his children and their mothers- all of whom are still in relationships with the Rapper. This, leading a Ms. Sabrina Lamb to launch a petition against the show, which received 33,000 signatures in just 10 days prompting Oxygen to pull the plug on it.
She explained:
“I love that the people who’ve signed the petition are from all backgrounds, ages, and countries. This one elderly white man wrote me and said even he was tired of the stereotypical images of black people. This show is about more than a rapper and his girlfriends. This is a show about kids who had no choice in how they came into the world. This show sets them up to be ridiculed and made fun of. None of us should be OK with that.’’
Sigh. If these ‘parents’ put just as much time in expanding their horizons as they did into making babies, they wouldn’t have found themselves in such an embarrassing predicament.
Luckily for them, the show’s cancellation does mean they don’t come out of this looking any more ignorant than they already do.
