With more than 20 years worth of hits to her name, Mary J. Blige is one of music’s longest reigning divas; a title she exudes in earnest on the latest cover of Los Angeles Confidential.

And while the fabulous 41 year old’s shoot is all sorts of stunning, her interview inside is equally as intriguing – most especially her comments on gay marriage.

For while some of her contemporaries have been catching flack for their take on the topic, Blige’s response is more likely to warm than scorch.

LA Confidential: Do you consider yourself a born again Christian?

MJB: Yes.

LA Confidential: And yet you’ve come out in support of same-sex marriage. A lot of people would say that is not compatible with your born again Christianity.

MJB: I would say this to those people: I’m not God. God said not to judge anyone lest you be judged. You’ve got to walk in love. To say you do not want people to be happy is so mean, so not me.
