Lately, I’ve found myself struggling with the realization that in less than 2 weeks, I’ll be hitting 25. While it’s not quite 30 and definitely not 40, 25 is still a big milestone to hit in ones life.
As funny as it sounds, I never really thought I would turn 25. Of course, I didn’t think I’d be dead by now, but I guess it just kind of rolled up on me rather quickly.
With a new milestone swiftly approaching as well as a new year, it made me think about what I’ve accomplished so far and how much more I have to go. I’ve been blessed to be able to expand myself in many areas this past year – hell, even these past few weeks, but I can’t help but get elated over what’s coming up next.
I’ve seen people with aspirations of doing things greater than what I could possibly imagine, but end up falling short due to discouragement, lack of faith and pure laziness. I’ve always asked myself, “How do people with so much potential end up falling so short?” A question that still baffles me until this day.
One thing that I’ve always done to keep my goals in order and my mind on track towards the bigger picture is to create a list of goals for the upcoming year. They are sectioned off into different areas including personal, financial and business. While I may not always meet every single goal that is on my list, I at least know that I have to work a little harder the next year to meet it.
It’s not always easy to meet every goal that you set out for, but it is a very good feeling when you finally get there. The trick to meeting majority of your goals though, would be to set realistic goals for the upcoming year. Never set out to save $10,000 when you know you only make $24,000, live on your own, have student loans and a car note to pay. The disappointment that you tend to face is only brought on by your own imagination.
Turning twenty-five may only come once, but surpassing a goal is like a revolving door. It can happen as many times as you’d like as long as you stay on the same path. I challenge each one of you to create a goals list and at the end of the year, see if you were able to meet any of them. Get started, divas!
