After learning of the exciting news that her fifth studio album “Girl on Fire,” was set to debut at the Billboard 200’s No. 1 position, Alicia Keys is taking her inferno-boosted momentum to the pages of ESSENCE.

The 31-year-old graces the publication’s January issue, rocking a shoulderless, red peplum dress, matching nails, and large, gold ‘saftey pin’ statement earrings.

She spoke with the magazine about learning to say “no” in order to create more of a balance in her everyday life.

“It’s okay if I can’t do every single thing. I finally understand that it doesn’t make me a lesser artist or human being,” said the 14-time Grammy Award winner.

The wife and mother also revealed a firsthand account on what it was like living in NYC during Hurricane Sandy, stating that her family was “very lucky” to have her mother’s home (which didn’t lose power, unlike Keys’ own) as a refuge.
