Nicki Minaj’s rap skills may be as cold as a New York winter, but the warmth of her heart even makes us melt.
Yesterday, the ‘Freedom’ lyricist linked up with NYC’s Hot 97 radio station in aiding their Hip Hop Has Heart Foundation as they passed out free Thanksgiving turkeys to students of PS 45-The Clarence E. Witherspoon School, the place she received her education while residing in Jamaica, Queens.
Over 600 attendees, including students, parents and faculty members, welcomed the bubbly entertainer back to her alma mater, and she made sure not to disappoint by not only taking pictures with the young scholars, but also offering a word of advice.
‘I’m so proud of you guys, that you’re in school. I want to encourage you to stay in school and continue to be smart, young people…Go out in the world and continue to be amazing adults!’ she said.
Ebro Darden, Hot 97’s Programming Director, had no doubt that Nic would be the perfect choice in doing something positive for the local youth, stating: ‘Hot 97 loves when artists come home to do something great! Partnering with Nicki Minaj to feed families for the holidays in her home borough, Queens, was awesome for all!’
The event received an outwardly positive response, and Hot 97’s overall purpose of assisting the battle against childhood hunger (especially in the wake of Hurricane Sandy’s destruction) appeared to have been accomplished!
Kudos to Nicki and Hot 97 for taking strides within their own communities!
